Rationale • UCCR is a proposal, as nothing such exists in Bangladesh • As Universities are not yet very active in Climate Change research, as they should have been. • The main reasons behind is some constraints like lack of funding or patronage from Government & donors as well as University authorities. • UCCR is expected to build capacity of climate change research of various universities of Bangladesh.

  3. Examples of University Consortium in USA • The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) is a nonprofit consortium of universities that grant Ph.D.s in fields related to atmospheric science. • UCAR's primary activity is managing the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). • UCAR also provides services to support, enhance, and extend the capabilities of the universities through its community programs and by advocating for strong federal science budgets on behalf of the geosciences community.

  4. European Universities Consortium • The main idea of the European Universities Consortium is to build research and education oriented network to promote and disseminate knowledge and practical skills related to international conflict prevention and security analysis, reconciliation, human rights, international development as well as peace research and activity. • In 2007 Consortium has joined the Intensive Programme, which is a part of the Erasmus Programme

  5. Goals It’s a nonprofit consortium of universities provides services to - support, enhance, and extend the capabilities of the universities of Bangladesh on climate change research.

  6. Objectives To increase cooperation among various universities of Bangladesh. To generate new knowledge about climate change and associated risks to Bangladesh through innovative research. To provide scholarship support for graduate students. To enhance capacity of professionals about climate change adaptation and mitigation tools and techniques.

Organizational Framework • Board of Trustee (Members for two years terms) • Govt. of Bangladesh, Renounced Scientist and Policy makers • Board of Committees (Members for two years terms) • Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Secretaries, Assistant Treasurers, etc. • Member Committees • Membership Committee • Nominating Committee • Scientific Programs Evaluation Committee
