We believe the young should… • Know and appreciate the advantage of democracy. • Possess a real love for their country, while desiring to take an active, intelligent part in its operation. • Show intelligent respect for their parents and other persons acting in an official capacity. • Learn to give and take criticism, to assume responsibility and accept consequences of their own actions. • Develop respect for other persons and to be able to live and work cooperatively with others.
What do I have to do? • Write a speech about “God, Flag and Country” that is considerate of audience expectations. • Present the speech in 3-minutes or less.
How will I be judged? • Topic content. • Directness, style of oral presentation, and memorization. • Word choice and arrangement: example, analogies, descriptions. • Logic, knowledge, transitions. • Originality. • Voice and diction, projection, clarity. • Poise, eye-contact, posture, gestures. • Effectiveness of delivery. • General impression. • Appearance.
Why do I care? • It is an assignment in which you will receive a grade. • It is an opportunity for you to win a prizes (money,…) if selected to represent Lockland Elementary School. • It is an opportunity to demonstrate proper citizenship to yourself as well as your family, school, and community.
How will I do it? • Start by choosing a theme that represents “God, Flag, and Country” • Use the writing process (brainstorm, rough draft, revise, edit, publish) to create your speech. • Practice so you know (and have possibly memorized) your speech.

When is it due? • All speeches will be worked on and completed over the next few days. • Presentations will be January 31st.
