  4. How it all started… • Omega Chi Epsilon had its inception at the University of Illinois in the Spring of 1931. The idea for such an organization originated with Mr. F. C. Howard. With the counsel of Professors Keys and Krase, A. Garrell Deem, Ethan M. Stifle and John W. Bertetti undertook to develop the idea. They drew up a set of By-Laws, designed a key and petitioned the Council of Administration for a charter, which was subsequently granted. They thus became the Alpha Chapter of Omega Chi Epsilon.

  5. Our purpose • 1. RECOGNITION to recognize excellence in chemical engineering • 2. INVESTIGATION to promote original investigation and innovation in chemical engineering • 3. SERVICE to provide service to the chemical engineering department or school and its student body • 4. COMRADESHIP to promote comradeship among chemical engineers • 5. PROFESSIONALISM to promote honesty, integrity and social responsibility: the hallmarks of professional ethics

  6. OXE at UT: The Epsilon Chapter The beginning • In 1941, James Franklin Adams (B.S., 1942) successfully petitioned for an Omega Chi Epsilon Chapter at the University of Texas at Austin. The Epsilon Chapter, the fifth chapter of Omega Chi Epsilon, was then born. Adams served as the first president. Two UT faculty members have served as National Presidents for Omega Chi Epsilon, Dr. William A. Cunningham, President 1959-68 and Dr. Kenneth Kobe, President 1957-59. Drs. Kobe and Dr. Howard Rase, both from UT, have served as past National Treasurers of Omega Chi Epsilon.

  7. What do we do now? • Offer tutoring and academic advising • Organize service events • Introduce a Girl to Engineering • Explore UT • Math Counts • Organize social events • Potluck dinner • Karaoke • Spring Pig Roast, Fall Boat Party!

  8. Pledgerequirements You must attend: • All pledge meetings and initiation • Two service events • Three social events • A faculty fireside You also need to: • Prepare a faculty research inquiry • Hold two office hours weekly • Stock the fridge! • Pay $50 for a life-time membership
