Jay N. "Ding" Darling was a prominent cartoonist and influential environmental advocate active from 1900 to 1949. Darling- the Cartoonist and Environmental Advocate Jay N. “Ding” Darling was a cartoonist between 1900 and 1949. He also was an environmental advocate and in 1934 and 1935, he headed the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
How Did Darling Help the Environment? Besides leading the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Darling also created the Duck Stamp. The profits from Duck Stamps help maintain and restore wetlands. He also founded the National Wildlife Federation.
