Level II or Professional Clear? • In 2010, the CTC established two new levels for Education Specialist credentials. • Instead of issuing “Level I” and “Level II” credentials, they began issuing “Preliminary” and “Clear” credentials. • The last date to enroll in a Level I program was December 31, 2011, and candidates had to finish the Level I program by January 31, 2013. • The last date to enroll in a Level II program is December 31, 2014, and candidates must finish the Level II program by January 31, 2019. • San Diego Unified offers the Professional Clear Credential for all candidates. Your Credential If you are not sure if you hold a Level I or a Preliminary credential: • Go to: http://www.ctc.ca.gov/ • Click on “Search for an Educator” • Select “Public Search” • Type in your name and click “search” to display your credentials. • Check the “Term” column next to your credential to determine whether you hold a Preliminary Level I or a Preliminary credential. Level I Credential Holders Have Options • Complete a Commission-approved program to obtain the Level II credential. • Enroll in a university or other program that still offers the Level II. • OR • Transition to a Commission-approved Induction program in special education to obtain the Clear Education Specialist Instruction credential. • SD Unified offers the new “Clear” credential. Your Commitment • Time: • Depending upon your preliminary credential, prior experience with BTSA, graduate level university classes and/or professional development taken, number of years teaching, and the rate at which you would like to complete the work, your time commitment could be anywhere from two hours to two years. • BTSA Induction Fees for SD Unified Teachers: • $0 (no cost) • BTSA Induction Fees for Non-district Teachers (including all charter schools): • $2,300 per year for the two-year program • $3,000 for the Early Completion Option • Required courses, for holders of Level I credentials, may be taken through SD Unified at a cost of $150 per unit for all teachers. How to Earn a Clear Education Specialist Credentialthrough SDUSD BTSA Induction • Agree to participate (Step One on sandiegoeducate.com/btsa). • To verify you have been notified of our program. • Sign up on ERO (sandi.net/ero) and attend an Information Session (Step Two on sandiegoeducate.com/btsa). • Learn all the basics of SD Unified BTSA Induction. • Complete a Participating Teacher Information Form (Step Three on sandiegoeducate.com/btsa). • A credential specialist and education specialist resource teacher will use the information you provide to tailor a program that meets your specific needs. • An education specialist resource teacher will contact you with your options and next steps in the enrollment process. • Complete two years of BTSA Induction. • All previous BTSA FACT or CFASST work successfully completed applies. • You may qualify for Early Completion Option (ECO), which counts as two years. • Level I Credential holders complete any applicable Level II coursework. • All required courses are offered by SDUSD at a nominal cost with all books and materials provided. • Course equivalency is provided for Level II standards previously met. Level II Content Requirement San Diego Unified School District offers the following Level II standards courses (two per school year) for candidates with a Level I Education Specialist, M/M and M/S: • Completing the four courses: • Meets the Level II Content Requirement for your Credential. • Earns District Salary Advancement Credit. About Level II Coursework • Remember that these are graduate level courses, with graduate level expectations. • In conjunction with BTSA Induction, coursework assignments address all CTC standards (common, program, and Level II). • You may apply up to 10 hours per course toward your professional development requirement for BTSA Induction. • Official transcripts are issued upon successful completion of the courses and BTSA Induction. Course Equivalency Petitions • Appropriate university and non-university activities may be acceptedin lieu of SDUSD Level II Standards Coursework. • Activities must be delivered by qualified individuals, supported by appropriate resources, and evaluated on an ongoing basis. • Activities must be completed afterearning the Level I credential. • Activities must meet the advanced Standards of the Level II program. • Provide a copy of your transcripts for any graduate level work prior to enrolling in SD Unified BTSA Induction for an evaluation of course equivalency. • Contact an SD Unified BTSA Induction Education Specialist Resource Teacher for additional information. Course Expectations • Be familiar with and follow the CEC Code of Ethics and CEC Standards. • Arrive promptly and attend all class sessions. • Complete all assignments according to the specified due dates. • Submit work with the understanding that it will be evaluated not only on content but also format (i.e. correct spelling and grammar, people first language). • Maintain a 3.0 (B) GPA, with only course grades of A, B, or C counted to satisfy credential requirements. • Adhere to SDUSD’s Academic Honesty Policy (Administrative Procedure 4710).
