  2. Junior League of Minneapolis Overview • I felt uninformed about JLM happenings as a new member • Background: • JLM is an association of women who work to improve the community through volunteer projects • JLM was founded in 1923 • Almost 300 Junior Leagues in 4 countries

  3. What I Wanted to Find Out • Members’ preferred communication channels • Members’ preferred topics • Appropriate vehicles for topics

  4. Goal of Final Project • Use limited resources efficiently • Help distribute communication more effectively • Match message to channel

  5. My Research Question “Do Junior League of Minneapolis members have a preference for how to receive communications from the league?”

  6. Methodology • Survey to all 253 members • Internet based: 27 questions • Questions included: • How they want information available • Which topics they want covered in each communication

  7. Results • Survey open from Jan. 25-March 10, 2007 • Response rate: 58% (147 of 253)

  8. Survey Results Has the Monday MINI e-mail ever motivated you to sign up for an event/activity?

  9. Survey Results What is your preferred method of receiving communications from the league? Electronic 88% No Preference 6% Print 5% Phone Call 0%

  10. Survey Results—Website Content On a scale of 1-5, which topics would you like to see on the JLM website (5 = most likely to be read by me; 1 = least likely to be read by me)?

  11. Survey Results—Newsletter Content On a scale of 1-5, which topics would you like to see in the monthly MINI newsletter (5 = most likely to be read by me; 1 = least likely to be read by me)?

Key Findings Summary • Preferred communication channel: Electronic (web and e-mail, interest in e-newsletter) • Most important topics: upcoming meetings and volunteer opportunities • Matching topic to vehicle: • Information about upcoming meetings: web • Information about upcoming voting: newsletter • Volunteer opportunities: web • Training opportunities: web • Fundraising events: web

  15. Recommendations • Use electronic communications (Avoid print and phone calls) • Transition print newsletter to e-newsletter • Announce upcoming meetings and volunteer opportunities via web (Preference for 1 month notice and two reminders)
