The Music Man • 1957 Broadway Musical • Opened at The Majestic Theater (now: Phantom of the Opera) • Transferred to The Broadway Theatre (now: Sister Act) • 1,375 performances • Won 5 Tony Awards, including Best Musical • Cast album won a Grammy Award in 1958 • The album was #1 on the Billboard charts for 12 weeks and remained for 245 weeks

  4. Characters • Harold Hill • Con-man who sells musical instruments and bands to communities, then takes the money and runs!

  5. Robert Preston • Born June 8, 1918 • Died March 21, 1987 • American stage and film actor • Starred primarily in westerns • Best known for his role in “The Music Man”

  6. Characters • Marian Paroo • Librarian in the town and also teaches piano lessons. • She suspects Professor Harold Hill and tries to uncover his story.
