  1. LightMap: Persistence of Vision Art Brian Goldfain, Daniel Lin, Kenny Huang, Regina Chan, PriyaNarasimhan Motivation Architecture LightMap PC Image Conversion Software Arduino Original objective was to create a toaster with the ability to toast dynamic images onto a slice of toast. Ran into difficulties powering coils to effectively toast images. Rebooted project using our existing code base and applied image conversion and display software to POV led bar. The end product can be used as creative and dynamic advertising in store displays or windows. LED Array Image Reproduction Program USB • Objective • Image reproduction through unconventional mediums • Allow images to be dynamically chosen by operator of device. • Accept widely used image formats for conversion. Results • Initial set of experiments • Prototype of hardware and software completed. • Image conversion software works with jpg and bmp files. • Initial usability studies • Image transfer times are quick (~3 sec) • Testing among number of test subjects show that majority are able to perceive image displayed on LEDs Development Environment • Hardware • Arduino Mega • Led Bar • Software • In-house image conversion software • C + Wiring (Arduino library) • Existing infrastructure • Serial Communication Interface http://www.ece.cmu.edu/~ece549/spring10/team3/index.html
