Parliament called on Charles II to return to England (he had been exiled by Cromwell) and restore the monarchy (This time is called the Restoration) • Charles II ruled until his death in 1685 and his Catholic brother, James II, took over England • England had a great distrust of Catholics (a lot of shady business between Catholic and Protestant rulers) • Parliament told James to step down and give his daughter Mary II and her husband William III the throne • William III was a famous Dutch soldier

  4. Glorious Revolution • William arrives in England with his Dutch army and James II runs away. • The bloodless transfer of power between James II and his daughter Mary II is called Glorious Revolution
