Reasons to join: • Gain new Experience • Develop your Skills-You will get a set of highly valuable skills • Have real Responsibilities-And consider career in teaching • Help the Community-Schools NEED you-Teachers and students will appreciate your commitment • Gain Recognition- Every hour you volunteer counts, if you complete 20 or more hours, you will receive a Warwick Volunteers certificate

  3. Student Tutor should be Responsible Enthusiastic Initiative Patient Motivating Willing to Develop

Commitment TERM 1 • Attend the following sessions:1) Student Tutoring Training Session2) Child Protection Training Session If you are interested in working in a special educational needs school, then you also should attend 3) Disability Awareness Training Session All of these take place in Term 1.The places in these training sessions fill up quickly as it is a very popular project and will be allocated on first-come-first-served basis. • DBS checks (and Certificate of Good Conduct) • Choose your school and subject from our list • Collect placement details from Warwick Volunteers office at the end of the term

  5. Commitment TERM 2 • Volunteering starts! Email your contact teacher, attend an Introduction at your school and you are ready! • At least 2 hours of your time at school per week • 9 weeks in Term 2 (excluding Half-Term) • You also may want to volunteer during Easter Vacation or Term 3 • Have at least 20 hours by the end of the academic year and receive your Warwick Volunteers Certificate!

DBS Checks • Legal requirement to ensure you are fit to work with children • More information will be available on the Warwick Volunteers webpageWe will also keep you updated by emails • INTERNATIONAL STUDENTSYou will also need to get the Certificate of Good Conduct from your country.The actual name varies from country to country, but the idea is always the same – to show that there are no criminal records on your name.You need to have it before your first entry to the school!

  7. Compensation • If you require transport (bus, car etc) to travel to schools thenyou will be compensated for travel expenses:You can get compensation for using busesAnd taxi (for groups of >3 if you go with other volunteers)Don’t book taxi yourself, otherwise you get no compensationAll taxis must be booked by Warwick Volunteers Office staff • To be eligible for reimbursement:Keep ALL your receiptsAnd fill in Transport Expenses Form (Available at the Office)

  8. What next? • If you’re serious at committing to this project, make sure you sign up to both of the following sessions: • Student Tutoring Training session (attend one only): • Week 3, 16th October (Wed), 1.30 – 3.30 pm, Room TBC • Week 4, 22nd October (Tues), 1.30 – 3.30 pm, Room TBC • Week 5, 31st October (Thurs), 2.15 – 4.15 pm, Room TBC • Child Protection Training session: • These will be posted on the Warwick Volunteers website. • Disability Awareness Training session: • These will be posted on the Warwick Volunteers website. Sign ups are on a first-come-first-serve basis.
