A popular micromessaging service launched in 2007. • Can be used on any cell phone or computer • An Example of name @Kaitlyn • A place for people to “ Tweet” • (140-character updates) • Grew by a whopping 1,841% in 2008 • Many businesses are using Twitter for ways of Customer Services and Marketing.

Kris Drey • Vice president of product marketing at Fliqz • (an online video-hosting service with 20 employees in Emeryville, Calif) • Drey was looking for ways to spread the word about Fliqz without spending any more of his maxed-out $15,000 marketing budget. • Drey started posting three or four updates a day as @Fliqz • @Fliqz now boasts 1,358 followers.

Kris Drey Cont. • Drey snagged 21 new sales leads, and Twitter also helped him seal one $6,000-a-year contract • Fliqz signs or renews up to 30 deals a month, so the company is hardly tweeting its way to massive growth. • Drey estimates he spends 8 hours a week on Twitter- Only 2% of his marketing budget. • Fliqz has also used Twitter as a way of Customer Service. • Drey spotted a customer tweeting about a problem they were having with his service. They were able to exchange tweets to resolve the problem.

"Now we ship 52 packages a week."

  6. The down falls • Allowing users to make up their own profile name. It can lead to confusion for businesses. • Ex: @Starbucks (coffee giant)- @Starbucksgal • Competitors could make a fake profile and write harmful things about your business. • Twitter co-founder Biz Stone are looking into setting up some kind of account-verification service • Time consuming to sift through clutter. (Drey) • Tweeting too aggressively is a surefire way to become a Twitter reject. • Be responsive • be careful what you say • Always do the twitter dance…
