The new FlexStage5 digital I/O port interface and TecnoCutPlateChanger modules are undergoing extensive testing at the INFN Bologna Scanning Lab. Significant modifications have been integrated into the oil distribution process, facilitating standard operations such as loading, locking, and unloading plates. Two plate changers are set up for different emulsion types, with smooth operation observed in both configurations. However, issues arose with oil contamination and emulsion detachment, necessitating manual cleaning. These results will help refine the process and enhance performance.

Software development SySal modules under test: - FlexStage5 (new module): digital IO port interface - VertigoScan 6.1 (modified): added calls to oil distribution • - TecnoCutPlateChanger(new module): provide • - IO Port monitor • - basic operations: go to load position , lock plate, unlock plate, start,… • - Full macros: Load Plate, Unload Plate, Dispense Oil • Development version installed at LNGS and Bologna G.Sirri - INFN Bologna
Functional test 2 Plate Changers installed in the Bologna Scanning Lab:- PC1: setup for glued emulsions - PC2: setup for no glued emulsions Software setup:Standard ScanServer (same as any other microscope) driven by a modified client to just load/unload emulsion plates. Mark finding and measurements are skipped. TEST of full brick load/unload: ok for both plate changersPC1 (glued emulsions) : very smoothPC2 (no glued emulsions): ok using frosted glass window ok using normal glass window with an additional external system to provide high pressure (8 bar) compressed air G.Sirri - INFN Bologna
Measure tests Brick scanback driven by the standard SySalscanback driver Setup:PC2 (no glued emulsions) “manual oil dispenser” Very preliminary result: fill factor as expected but several problems occured due to oil - the glass window dirty (possible problem for vacuum, lateral mark finding, …) - some failures during the detaching of dirty emulsions from some surfaces of the plate changer - emulsions and separators must be cleaned manually before being used again These issues should be fixed dry objective ?
