  3. Selected Ongoing or Recently Completed Child Nutrition Studies • Improve Program Access • Evaluation of the Simplified Summer Food Program Pilot 2001-2006 • Evaluation of Direct Verification Pilots • Pennsylvania SFSP Rural Eligibility Pilot Project

School Nutrition Dietary Assessment Study (SNDA – III) • Agency’s periodic assessment of the nutritional effects of school meals • Nationally representative study will examine: • SFA characteristics/operations • Participant characteristics • Nutritional quality of meals offered/served • Student dietary intakes and the contribution of school meals to these intakes

  5. School Nutrition Dietary Assessment Study (SNDA – III) • National sample includes 129 public SFAs, 398 schools, and about 2,400 students • Data were collected in School Year 2004/05 • Final report expected in 2007

Data Matching in the NSLP: 2005 • Examines the prevalence of computer matching and feasibility of expanding computer matching for certification and verification of children eligible for free and reduced-price meals • Data collection included were collected in 2004-05 through site visits, mail surveys of State Agencies and in-depth telephone interviews. • Final reports currently on FNS website.

  7. School Lunch and Breakfast Cost Study - II • Study will update estimates of the average costs of producing reimbursable school lunches and breakfasts using a direct measurement approach. • Study will also examine school districts indirect cost allocation • Data collection occurred in 122 school districts during School Year 2005/06. • Review of final annual financial statements occurred in Fall 2006 • Final report expected in early 2008.

  8. NSLP/SBP Access, Participation, Eligibility, & Certification Study (APEC) • This study is being undertaken to meet the requirements of the “Improper Payments Information Act of 2002 (P.L. 107-300) for estimating the extent of overpayments, underpayments and overall erroneous payments made under NSLP and SBP. • Program access issues including barriers and deterrence to participation will also be examined • Data were collected from a nationally sample of SFAs during School Year 2005/06. • Final Report expected in 2007.

  9. Regional Office Review of Applications (RORA) • Annual assessment of the administrative accuracy of SFA approval and benefit issuance for free/reduce-price meals based on household applications • Nationally representative sample: 56 Districts (8 per FNS region) • Data are currently being collected • Report in Fall 2007
