WINBC TODAY • The voice of wireless in BC. • One of the first and a leading wireless associations in North America founded in 2001. • 100 member companies, primarily wireless developers and solution providers. • Represent the full spectrum of wireless companies – satellite, cellular and personal area networks. • Producers of the Wireless Innovation Contest (WIC05) open to Canada and United States which will garner 40 million media impressions. • Website received over 6 thousand hits/month over the last quarter of 2004, a 150% increase since the last quarter of 2003 and continues to rise. • Monthly newsletter circulated to over 2000 key individuals in the wireless industry in Canada, the US and some internationally. • Collaborates with wireless organizations in other provinces and in the US. • Founding member of Canadian Wireless Centres of Excellencehttp://www.cwcnet.ca/en/html/cwcnet/home/home • Upcoming Projects • Wireless Test Lab • Recruit another anchor company • Support the 2010 Olympics

HOW DID WINBC GET STARTED? • NRC-IRAP / CIMI initiative “We have all these wireless companies, what do we do with them!” • Introductions / hosted first gathering of 23 companies • Cluster perspective • Industry Driven – Institutional Support (staff resources, not $$) • Society formed in November 2001 with 12 members to support collaboration between early stage wireless companies.
