  1. A series-Doctor Who Doctor who is a series because each of its episodes can be watched individually and still make sense to its audience. An episode in a series is usually 30 minutes long and each narrative is on its own for each episode but the characters are the same for each episode (unless in the case of Doctor Who the lead character dies, regenerates and then is a different person but he is still the doctor) Each episode in a series has a definite ending and this usually leads it to the next episode (but not revealing any of the other episodes plot, usually just setting up the entrance to the next episode) Each episodes narrative starts with the Doctor (as he is dubbed by himself and everyone who knows him) arriving at the scene in his tardis and either straight away or quite near the start he finds a serious problem then he starts to investigate that problem, shortly after which he finds what is causing such issue, he then proceeds to correct or sort out that problem, eventually corrects it and finds everyone is happy again and then getting back into his tardis and leaving the scene (upon leaving that is the end of the episode and the credits show the tardis travelling through a worm-hole of some sort presumably to his next issue or problem). 2. A Serial-Dead Set Dead set’s narrative starts in the first episode and does not end in that first episode but the first episode’s ending will lead it onto the next and this leading on pattern will continue until the last episode where the entire story will definitely end. • Dead set is a serial because each of its five episodes cannot be watched independently they have to be watched from episode one through to episode 5 to be able to understand the story, the show was also created with a part of reality of using the big brother house where its inhabitants have no contact at all of the outside world so they would not know of the apparent zombie outbreak so with this in mind when the eviction night doesn’t happen the inhabitants hesitantly open the doors and see the zombie outbreak for the first time. • Each episode of a serial usually lasts around 30 minutes to an hour but depending on the program the length can vary quite a lot.
