Angela White Degrees Held/Universities Attended BA in history from Wayne State University, Detroit Currently working on Masters of Library and Information Science online, Wayne State University Recent Professional Experience Technology and library aid for Tippecanoe School Corporation; taught Library and Computer Lab to special K-5. Professional Interest: I have a pet project for website creation and design for rural libraries in Indiana without a web presence. I am taking an HTML5 class right now. Hobbies/Interests: Reading Gardening Some painting (I have a painting that I did myself hanging in my office) General craftiness (i.e. sewing, knitting, jewelry making) All things nerd (comic books, video games, super heroes, Dr. Who, etc.) Introductions Meet Our New Colleagues Secretary Academic Services

  8. Recent Professional Experience: Krannert School of Management - 7 years; Biomedical Engineering - 3 years; Admissions Department - 3 years Gena has worked at Purdue for 13 years. Her mother, Jane Flora, worked in Beering Hall for many years. Working her now, Gena says she feels like coming home. Professional Interest: Working at Purdue University and the opportunities provided; such as classes, workshops and various other opportunities provided on campus. Hobbies/Interests: Spending time with her husband and her three grown children, two who are Purdue grads, and her two grandsons Gena farms, volunteers in her community, and participates in 4-H/Ag programs She enjoys learning new things, and going on adventures Gena Cox Introductions Meet Our New Colleagues Secretary CATALYST

  13. GLOBAL AFFAIRS • 3 Study Abroad SAIL grants • Involved in Purdue’s Strategic Partnership in Colombia • Christie Vilsack’s visit • Benjamin Franklin Institute • Developing International Development proposal

  14. EXTERNAL FUNDING ACTIVITY SPS Sponsored Program Data for COE • Awards to date for the current year stand at about $4 million (2nd best of past 5 years with a quarter still to go). • Across campus, we have been part of about $11.5 million in awards. • Keep up the great work!

ACCOMPLISHMENTS THIS YEAR Faculty Development and Support • College Faculty Mentoring Committee established, and early career faculty members linked with mentors • Conference travel support program made available to all faculty, grant incentives increased, and faculty development for developing online courses offered in fall • Launch the Future Seed Grant program developed to target strategic initiatives in STEM education and diversity/social justice; three proposals funded in the first round: • Eric Deemer & Brenda Capobianco • Carol Hopkins &Trish Morita-Mullaney • Helen Patrick & Youli Mantzicopoulos

ACCOMPLISHMENTS THIS YEAR Collaborative Research Environment • Interdisciplinary collaborations initiated in response to Launch the Future program • Undergraduate research activities featured more prominently on college website • New Collaboration Corner (BRNG 6104) opened and has been getting regular use

ACCOMPLISHMENTS THIS YEAR Graduate Recruitment and Support • New Dean’s Graduate Research Assistant Seed Grant Program was launched in the fall; six academic year graduate assistantships were funded for 2013-14 • Plans for institutionalization of college support for graduate assistantships going forward • Additional donor funding for support of graduate student travel will be available in the coming year
