  1. Lamby Way Croeso!

  2. The rubbish arrives and the trucks are weighed to find out the weight of the rubbish. All of the rubbish will end up in one of three areas (Recycling,Landfillor Composting)

  3. This is the landfillsite. Any rubbish that can not be recycled is dumped on this mound.

  4. This duck is sitting on enough rubbish to cover your school. In Cardiff this much rubbish is dumped every year.

  5. Where is this horse? This is an old landfill site which has been capped. There is still a lot of rubbish decomposing beneath this ground.

  6. Rotting rubbish creates a gas called methane. This gas is reused to generate electricity.

  7. Why do you think they need hawks here? Seagulls and rats are seen as pests that like to live in the rubbish. Hawks are used to scare them away.

  8. Did you know even your bin is recycled?

  9. We are now inside the recycling centre (Also know as MRF)

  10. Green bags are opened ready for sorting.

  11. The waste is sorted by hand into different chutes. What is at the bottom of this chute?

  12. These cages collect the materials that have been dropped down the chutes.

  13. At the end of the conveyor belt a magnet sorts the aluminium and steel cans.

  14. The separated materials are squashed in the baler. The bales are moved outside.

  15. The bales are collected and taken away to be made into new products.

  16. You can also bring some of your recyclables here. Do you know of any other recycling facilities near your school?

  17. The fridges are waiting here to have the gas removed before they are recycled.

  18. Garden and park waste can be recycled too.

  19. Composting begins here. It is sieved and chopped.

  20. Over the next 12 weeks the compost is turned by lorries. It begins to break down.

  21. This is the final compost that is used in gardens and parks throughout the city.

  22. So where in Lamby Way will your rubbish finish its journey this week? ?
