  2. CONJUNCTIONS • A conjunction is a word such as and, but, or orthat joins words, phrases, or sentences.

  3. Conjunction “And” • Use and to join related ideas: • Deer and elk are similar animals.

  4. Conjunction “But” • Use butto join contrasting ideas: • That deer looks small but healthy.

  5. Conjunction “Or” • Use or to suggest a choice: • Do you like to shop or read?

  6. More on Conjunctions • You can use conjunctions to make compound subjects, compound predicates,and compound sentences. • Place a comma before the conjunction in a compound sentence.
