Departure & Return

We depart on Tuesday, August 9. Be at Pearson Airport Terminal 3 by 3:45 p.m. Flight Number is AirFrance 351 (going to Paris) Please do not try to print boarding pass online. We return on Thursday, August 25 at 4:05 p.m. Return flight is AirFrance 356 from Paris. Terminal 3 at Pearson. Departure & Return

Luggage Limits • Carry On • 1 standard baggage item that respects the following maximum dimensions: • 55 cm (l) x 35 cm (w) x 25 cm (h) – including pockets, wheels, and handles • 1 accessory (handbag, notebook computer, camera, etc.) • Maximum total weight (standard baggage + accessory): 12 kg/26.5 lbs • Checked Baggage (1 Piece) – 23 kg max • For more details check the Air France Web Site

Carry-on and / or Checked • If you are packing really light, you might be able to get away with just carry-on. Remember, however, that you cannot take a pen-knife, liquids, etc. into the cabin. These items have to be checked. • Checked baggage sometimes comes a day or two behind the passengers. I would suggest packing enough personal items – underwear, toothbrush, etc. – in your carry-on so as to be able to manage until your luggage catches up with you.

Permission for Minors to Travel • These must be notarized. Lawyer here today who can notarize your documents for free. • Anyone who has attained the age of 18 need not have this document.

Waiver Forms • These do not need to be notarized. • There is an adult version and a version for minors. • Opportunity for you to let us serve you or your child better by telling us of special health concerns, etc.

Passports • Please do not forget your passports! • I am told that Canadian Passports are a hot item on the black market. Many thieves especially in busy areas such as airports, bus stations, train stations, WYD crowds... • Security belt is a good idea.

Health Insurance • I know that many of you have purchased insurance through our travel agent. • Reminder that everyone must have some form of health travel insurance. • Waiver form gives you another opportunity to give us the health insurance info so that we can get in touch with the insurance company should you be unconscious, etc.

Money • Euro is now about 1.4 Canadian Dollars. • 50 Euros should be sufficient for personal items such as batteries, Advil, sunscreen, and occasional ice-cream cone. • Souvenirs, of course, are another matter. There will be time to buy some. • Debit cards work nicely in getting cash out of ATMs. I would suggest this route rather than travellers cheques or buying Euros here.

Credit Cards • Can be a great idea. • Before you leave Canada, phone Visa or M/C and tell them that you are going to Spain and the dates of departure and return. You don't want them freezing the account on you.

Electronic Gadgets • Please do not take them with you: cell phones, iPods (or MP3 Players of any kind), games, etc. • Several of us will have cell phones that we will lend so that you can occasionally call home. Taking a cell from here without buying some special package will be very expensive to use. • We will publish the group cell numbers as soon as we verify that they work. • Cameras are ok to bring, but think about battery power.

Clothes to Pack • You will be receiving two T-shirts at the airport. • Bathing suit for showering. • Something modest to sleep in. • Although weather will be hot, do pack one light sweater or at least a long-sleeved shirt. • Hat to help shield you from the sun. (This will be included in the WYD kit, but unfortunately we will not get this until August 15 or 16.)

Clothes to Pack continued • One pair of sandals is all that I am taking. • You might pack woolen socks to help with the shock of walking on cobble stoned streets. • There will be some opportunity to do laundry in Alcala. • On August 15 or 16 you will also receive a WYD backpack. Modest Dressing • It will be hot in Spain but that is no reason to throw modesty by the wayside. • Our clothes speak a language. We may be sincerely devoted to chastity in our souls, but our clothes may be giving another message. • By dressing modestly, we show respect for others and help one another to be pure.

Other things to pack • Sleeping pad. • Sleeping bag (light) or blanket. • Personal toiletries. • A light source – LED on key chain works well. • A devotional book or other reading. • You will want a water bottle, but I would suggest just buying bottled water once we get to Spain and holding on to the bottle.

First Night in Burgos • We need to come up with a rooming list. • There are quadruple, triple, doubles, and one single. • We can start on a list today, but I reserve the right to alter it so as to avoid awkward groupings, especially among those who are not here today.

Lumbier / Sangüesa • From Burgos we go to our host towns, which are about 10 km apart and about 40 km to the SE of Pamplona. • The group has been divided. This is something that you will have to trust Fr Michael and me and the two Spanish priests on. • There are some joint activities, including the play on Friday night, the day in Javier Castle, and the visit on Sunday, to Roncesvalles.
