  8. A solvent is a substance in which another substance is dissolved. • Water is the universal solvent

  9. A solute is the substance that is dissolved by the solvent • salt

  10. Heterogenous Mixtures • In a heterogenous mixture the components remain distinct, that is you can tell what they are individually.
