  3. Preparation for F1 Cognitive Apprenticeship Thinking like a doctor rather than like a student Shadowing doctors in clinical settings (“Senior Medical Student”) Gaining increasing independence in a fully supported and supervised clinical environment Theme for Year 5

  4. Learning Outcomes • Moving from knowledge and understanding to application and synthesis • Linking theory to practice

  5. Learning Strategies • 5 “Blocks” of clinical experience, each lasting 5 or 6 weeks • Professional practice weeks • A supporting academic programme • An eleven week elective

  7. The Community Block • Assess patients independently • Follow patient pathways through episodes of hospital care • Participate in chronic disease management • Be assessed in clinical skills and professionalism

  11. Reimbursements • Approximately I ½ - 2 sessions per week • At the current rate for undergraduate teaching activities in general practice (£180 per session)
