Department of Medicine – Core Administration Functions Hiring, evaluations, etc. Appointments & Promotions Purchasing, accounting entries, budget process, reporting, Grant Pre/Post award management Space, IT & other infrastructure Clinical operations: credentialing, operations management, billing, collecting, reporting, compliance If in doubt, contact your Division Administrator

Compensation Policy • P&S, Departmental & Divisional Compensation Plans • Reviewed annually • Available on web http://www.columbiamedicine2.org/web/index.html • User Name/Password = comp11 • Annual compensation letters • “X” or Base component • “Y” or Additional Compensation component • “Z” or Bonus component

  6. “X” or Base Component • Minimum set by rank centrally by P&S; changes periodically • Clinical faculty – usually at minimum for rank • Research faculty – often higher as base is what is charged to grants • Charged full fringe rate (as set by CU) • Contribution to retirement programs tied to base salary

  7. “Y” or Additional Compensation • Amount necessary to bring compensation to appropriate for specialty • Usually supported by clinical income • May be eligible for retirement contributions (designated as “A1” in payroll system) • Can go up or down from year to year

  8. “Z” or Bonus Compensation • Based on divisional compensation plan • Criteria vary from division to division • Usually paid quarterly or annually • Not eligible for retirement contributions (designated as “A3” in payroll system)
