My Mesoamerica Presentation • by Roberta Reagan • February 29, 2000 • for class W210
The Mystery of Ancient Mesoamerican Civilizations • Symbolism of various glyphs • Some of my favorite glyphs • Where glyphs were found • Why these glyphs are my favorite
Symbolism of Various Glyphs • This first glyphs represents the Jaguar. The Jaguar was an important deity, associated with the supernatural, of the Aztecs and Mayas. This glyph is more realistic in style.
Continue with Symbolism • This glyph is a stylized version. It still symbolizes the jaguar. It is evident by the curved portion above the mouth. Sometimes they are found wearing a scarf around their shoulders.
Where my Favorite Glyph was Found • Knot-Eyed Jaguar was found in the Mayan city of Yaxchilan, carved on one of the lintels inside one of the structures.
Why this Glyph is my Favorite • Knot-eye-Jaguar is my favorite because he has a funny name. Also, it looks like he has a bow on his head.
