Information Commons Activities 1 • Polar Information Commons – to be launched next week at IPY Oslo Science Conference • Funded by ICSU Grant of 30,000 euros • Key partners including IPYIPO, SCAR, IASC, Science Commons, WMO, IUGG, WMO-SC, APECS • Use of CC0 or CC-BY licensing • PIC “badge” and logo provides both human and machine-readable data identification and search • PIC norms provide suggested rules of behavior regarding PIC data, especially for CC0 data • CODATA will need to continue providing leadership on PIC development and governance
Information Commons Activities 2 • Wrapping up participation in EC Communia Project • Held major workshop in Torino in 2009; see: http://www.communia-project.eu/node/283 • Participation in Global Research Data Infrastructure 2020 initiative being explored • Helping to host GRDI meeting in Cape Town in conjunction withCODATA Conference
GEO Data Sharing Task • GEO Data Sharing Task Force • Co-chairs include R. Chen, P. Uhlir, and J. Gabrynowitz representing GEO Task DA-06-01 led by CODATA • Data Sharing Implementation Guidelines accepted by GEO Plenary in December 2009 with minor changes; successful side event at Wilson Center • Currently developing an Action Plan and supporting documentation for consideration at GEO-VI plenary and Ministerial in Beijing in November 2010 • Negotiating declaration text with Ministerial Task Force • Data Sharing Task DA-06-01 • Still led by CODATA, but subsumed by TF until TF ends • Peer-review version of White Paper published last fallby the Journal of Space Law and CODATA DataScience Journal
APN Workshop • APN/CAPaBLE Grant 2009 for Asia Pacific workshop on Data Sharing issues • Schedule for July 27-28 in Kuala Lumpur • $40,000 from APN; matching funds from CODATA, CODATA members, and CIESIN • ~35 experts from Asia Pacific region expected • Training session and side event planned at GEO-VI plenary and ministerial • Report and editorial planned
55th CODATA Exec Committee Meeting • Originally scheduled for April in Paris; postponed due to disruption of air travel by Iceland volcano • Rescheduled for 20-21 August in Paris (officers meet 19 August) • Key Agenda Items: • Proposed new and renewed task groups, working groups • 2010 task group budget • 2011 budget • Conference and General Assembly plans • Data Science Journal • Strategic issues • ICSU Visioning, Strategic Plan • CODATA interactions with SCCID, WDS, Unions
