  3. Inferring practice: What can you infer based on the information available to you? “’You say you didn’t know it was due today?’ my teacher asked me with tears in hereyes…” “ I don’t believe it”

  4. INFERRING: Some practice • Chapter 3: Paragraph 1 • I infer that the author is actually saying that people are really excited about this huge pearl. I also infer that news is traveling quickly about Kino finding the Pearl of the World. • Why am I inferring this? • Questions?

  5. Predicting • Predicting is taking what you know (or think you know) and making an educated guess about what will happen later in the text. • Unlike inferences, we can tell if almost always find out • if our predictions are correct or not…
