The soil in the boreal shield • The most common types of soil in this ecozone is wet climate and leached. • The air masses carry moisture form the water bodies and is absorbed into the soil. • Because the coniferous trees are never bare, fewer needles are being decomposed. • Moisture is an essential part of the growth of vegetation. • The thin soils caused by the harsh climate and exposed rocks are quite unsuitable for farming, due to the low hummus and organic material content.
