  2.  The Impact Chinese left their homeland to escape the anti-Chinese violence that had broken out on the west coast. • They choose cities like Chicago because it's Chinatown is home to a number of banks, Chinese restaurants, gift shops, grocery stores, Chinese medicine stores •  a number of services that cater to people interested in Chinese culture, including those speaking Chinese, especially the Cantonese dialect.  • It is a community hub for Chinese people in Chicago metropolitan area, a business center for Chinese in the Midwest, as well as a popular destination for tourists and locals alik

  5. What impact did they have on politics in Chicago? • The impact they have on Chicago politics is back then there were no Chinese architects born in Chicago yet  • Chicago - born architects were chosen to study and then build the Chinese - inspired buildings.

Which communities/side of the city? • the first Chinese arrived Chicago after 1869 • They settled on the south side of Chicago on Amour Square • Led by the on Leong Merchants Association • In 1889, 16 Chinese-owned businesses were located along the two-block stretch, including eight grocery stores, two butcher shops and a restaurant
