Facts • Population: Approximately 9.5 million • Capitol: Santo Domingo (approx. 2.25 million people) • Language: Spanish • Currency: Peso • Religion: 95% Catholic • Takes up 2/3 of the island of Hispanoila.   3. Geography • Natural resources: Nickel, Bauxite, Silver, Gold • Climate: Tropical with little change in seasons • Terrain: Mountainous with fertile valleys and long stretches of coast • Greatest Elevation: Pico Duarte 3,175 meters. • (“The Dominican Republic”)

(Dominican Republic=9.5 million) • The Dominican Republic is the most popular tourist destination in the Caribbean. • Highest elevation in the Caribbean: Pico Duarte 3,175 km. • Second biggest area.
