  2. Professional Boxer Muhammad Ali was an American boxer and former three time World Heavyweight champion. In 1999, he was crowned “Sportsman of the Century”. He also won the American Boxing Federation championship and Olympic gold medal.

  3. Life Information • Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. {Muhammad Ali} was named after his father-Cassius Clay, Sr. • He was born on January 17, 1942, in Louisville Kentucky. • Ali converted to the Nation of Islam in 1975. • He was introduced to boxing by a police officer who found him fuming over a stolen bike. • Weighing about 190 pounds and measuring 6’3”, at the top of his career, he was very intimidating to his opponents.

Career Information • Muhammad Ali’s awards include the World Heavyweight Champion(3 times), Sportsman of the Century, American Boxing Federation Championship, an Olympic Gold Medal, a total of 8 Golden Glove titles, and an Amateur Athletic Union National Title. • His first trainer was Fred Stoner, who stayed with him all through his amateur career. • He had 61 fights, 56 wins, and 5 losses. Some were lost more than once to the same person.

  5. Vietnam Puts a Pause to Ali’s career In 1964, Ali failed the Armed Forces qualifying test because his writing and spelling skills were subpar. However, in early 1966, the tests were revised and Ali was reclassified 1A. He refused to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a conscientious.

Outside the Athletic World Since he has retired from boxing, he has traveled all over the world lending his name and presence to hunger and poverty relief, supporting education efforts of all kinds. It is estimated that he has provided more than 22 million meals to feed the hungry. He has worked with the US civil rights movement and The United Nations.

  7. Muhammad Ali Center Muhammad Ali’s center is called the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, or MAPC. It is a National Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence. It helps Parkinson’s patients and families. It provides research, diagnosis, and education.

  8. The Current Ali In the year 2007, Muhammad Ali is currently 65 years of age. Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in the early 1980’s. Parkinson’s Disease is a disorder of the central nervous system that impairs motor skills and speech. He currently lives in Scottsdale, Arizona with his 4th wife Yolanda Ali.
