Information Governance • Supports 4 main aims: • To support the provision of high quality care by promoting the effective and appropriate use of information. • To encourage responsible staff to work closely together, preventing duplication of effort and enabling more efficient use of resources. • To develop support arrangements and provide staff with appropriate tools and support to enable them to discharge their responsibilities to consistently high standards. • To enable organisations to understand their own performance and manage improvement in a systematic and effective way.

  4. IG Toolkit Requirements Encompass Legislation/Guidance Required To Be Met By PCT • Data Protection Act 1998 • Freedom of Information Act 2000 • The Confidentiality Code of Practice • BS7799 • HSC 1999/053 ‘For the Record’ • Controls Assurance • Data Accreditation

NHSIA – IG Toolkit • Provides route map to assist in achievement of best practice for Information Governance within NHS Organisations • Provides a series of easy to follow Requirements for NHS Organisations to use to build into Strategy documents which will, over time, achieve best practice in Information Governance
