Advancements in Wind Energy Research at TU Delft: DUWIND and the Future of Sustainable Power

TU Delft's DUWIND research group is one of Europe’s oldest and largest academic R&D groups focusing on wind energy. With 13 research groups and over 30 PhD candidates, DUWIND specializes in multidisciplinary design methods, advanced analyses, and feasibility testing for innovative wind energy solutions. Despite challenges such as limited R&D funding, DUWIND fosters collaboration across faculties through a unique MSc in Wind Energy, aimed at integrating design and sustainable energy practices.   2. Duwind is a formal TUD institute • An Executive Board: deans + rector (meets almost never) • An International Advisory Board, together with ECN (twice a year) • Internal meetings: once a month a work-lunch

  3. Strong and weak points Strong: • bottom-up, based on >30 y of cooperation • Duwind has no R&D money, only common acquisition • All activities are content based Weak: • Duwind has no R&D money, only common acquisition • Financial support by faculties for overhead

New: DUWIND MSc Wind Energy • Until now: Wind Energy at a MSc level • about 40 MSc students / y on wind topics in the 5 Duwind-faculties, in a faculty-MSc programme • Thé route for specialization • From sept. 2012 on: an official MSc Wind Energy • An interfaculty MSc, supported by 5 faculties • Focus on design & integration, not specialization
