Understanding Colonization and Imperialism: Key Concepts and Their Impact on Africa

This educational resource delves into the concepts of colonization and imperialism, defining each term and illustrating their significance in history. Colonization is the process of establishing colonies, exemplified by the 13 colonies in America, while imperialism involves exerting control over a nation’s political and economic activities. The article discusses the partitioning of Africa, driven by European desires for resources. It highlights the creation of artificial boundaries, often leading to civil war, as countries fought internally for control over valuable resources. Maps illustrate how these dynamics shaped Africa's history.
