  2. In Suffolk in 2011 • Only 54.7% of learners achieved 5 GCSEs A*-C grade – the minimum required by industry. • The National average is 58.9%

  3. In Suffolk in 2011 • Only 81% of learners who attended sixth form achieved 3 A levels or equivalent

  4. In Suffolk in 2011 • 92% of 16 year olds progress into further learning or training BUT by 17 this figure drops to 82%

  5. In Suffolk in 2011 • Only 86.6% of LLDD learners stay in learning after 16 yrs, compared to 92% of mainstream learners.

  6. In Suffolk in 2011 • Less than 1% of SEN LLDD learners are in specialist provision, the rest are in mainstream education.

  7. In Suffolk in 2011 Young people with a statement of need or school action plus represent 10% of the student population but make up 25% of the NEET group (Not in Education Employment or Training) after 16.

  8. In Suffolk in 2011 Young people who become NEET are 3 to 4 times likelier to have persistent absences than their peers.

  10. In Suffolk in 2011 • The cost to a school for a fixed term exclusion could be as high as £4,800 per learner per year. • The cost for alternative provision in a PRU or non school provider can be as high as £15,000 per learner per year.

  11. In Suffolk in 2011 • There were 24,555 young people aged 16-18. Of these 78% remained in learning, 6% were NEET and 6.9% were in Jobs without training.

  12. In Suffolk in 2011 Over 1,000 young people aged 16 to 18 started an apprenticeship since Sept 2011 in areas such as Retail, Business Administration, Construction, Engineering and Manufacturing.

  13. In Suffolk in 2011 • Of the County’s 19 year olds :- • 54% went into Higher Education • 24% went onto further education or training • 12% went into Employment without training • 4% were still NEET

  14. In Suffolk in 2011 The Raising the Participation Age measure isn’t simply about NEETs; more young people are in jobs without training than are NEET and they are missing future opportunities

  15. In Suffolk in 2011 Research shows that the average salary increases by 5% annually for each year a young person stays in education or training.

  16. In Suffolk in 2011 All employers agree that qualifications will get young people so far ... But it is the employability skills they can demonstrate at interview which will get them the job.

  18. In Suffolk in 2011 Results of the Suffolk Key Stage 4 Curriculum Audit recorded that 91% of schools will continue with a work experience offer at Key Stage 4. All recorded some form of current vocational curriculum offer, However will this still be the case in the next few years?
