  2. From the textbook… • The implementation process involves the discontinuation of previous practises and the commencement of use of the solution. The key component of implementation is the establishment of training strategies for the users of the system

  3. Simplified… • Basically, Implementation is after you have developed the new system and need to put it to work. It involves changing the old information system to the new one, and there are 4 different methods to doing this: • Direct Cutover • Parallel Operation • Pilot Operation • Phased Operation

  4. Direct Cutover • Direct Cutover is the simplest method. It involves changing the old system immediately to the new one at one specific time. While this method is the fastest, it is highly risky as the new system may fail.

  5. Parallel Operation • Parallel Operation involves running both systems simultaneously for a specified period of time. This method has low risk, because if the new system fails the old system will act as a backup. • Example – MetCard/Myki

  6. Pilot Operation • This method involves implementing the new system at one branch of a company, called a pilot site, which acts as the testing grounds. Pilot Operation is the least risky, but can be costly.

  7. Phased Operation • Phased Operation involves implementing the new system in phases, slowly getting rid of the old system. This can be useful to test the new system. Should an error occur, it will be easy to find where the problem lies.
