  2. Holidays • Christmas is the most popular time of the year. Christmas Eve is called HeiligarAbend. • Germany’s main holiday is celebrated on October 3rd, the day of German Unity. • Festive outdoor markets in large cities are opened during the holiday season.

  3. Language • Germans speak German but with different dialects and accents. • Also Germans capitalize all nouns even in the middle of the sentence. • All children learn High German (a standard form) of German used to communicate in business and education.

  4. Religion • Did you know most Germans are Christians? • About a third of them are Roman Catholic, while another third belong to various Protestant churches. • Even today, Catholics live mostly in the south west.

  5. Interesting Facts • Did you know on Germany’s flag there are three strips- red, black, and gold. • Also, some of the worlds greatest composers came from Germany. • Lastly, to wish for good luck, Germans don’t cross their fingers. They press the thumb.
