  3. The University of Aarhus • 2007. The Aarhus School of Business, the Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences, the National Environmental Research Institute and the Danish University of Education merge with the University of Aarhus UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS

  4. The University of Aarhus • Primary location in the city of Aarhus • Geographically spread out over most of Denmark in 22 institutions, • 9 faculties, • 34.000 students, • 9.000 staff UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS

ECTS Label • An ECTS label can be awarded to institutions which apply ECTS correctly in all first and second cycle degree programmes • The criteria for the ECTS label are: an Information Package/Course Catalogue in the local/national language and English (online or hard copy), correct use of ECTS and use of ECTS in Erasmus mobility (including samples of Learning Agreements, Transcripts of Records and proof of full academic recognition for Erasmus students) • The label will raise the profile of the institution as an attractive, reliable and transparent partner in European and international cooperation UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS

  6. Who has been awarded label? • 2004: 91 applications, 11 awarded label • 2005: 70 application, 3 awarded label • 2006: 49 application, 7 awarded label • 2007: application round postponed to 2008 UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS

  7. ECTS Label – University of Aarhus • Decision by management in 2005 to apply for an ECTS Label • Formalized and officialized in a contract with the The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS

  8. Why ECTS Label? - externally EU ”certificate” expressing: • Full institutional and programme transparency (complete CC in English) • EU quality assurance of administrative procedures concerning student mobility • International commitment UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS

  9. Why ECTS Label? - internally To internally organize and harmonize: • Structure (programme, credit allocation and size) • Presentation of studies and courses To promote internal flexibility: • In regards to course selection • Transfer of credits between studies UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS

Timeplan, Phase 1 strategic/political • project plan and project organization established • necessary changes in programme structure pointed out • management decides on general structure and general system standards • project and general changes introduced to institutional leaders and key members of staff UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS

Phase 2 system development/-support • collective system for handling of study programmes developed • collective system for handling of dynamic course catalogue developed • homepage structure and form decided • graphic presentation of programmes decided • form and structure of course catalogue decided • process of documentation gathering planed UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS

Phase 3 implementation and adaption of standards • programme structure adapted (faculties)   • study regulations/ study programmes adapted (board of studies) • course descriptions generated (board of studies, teachers) • general information and presentations produced • translation of general information and presentations • translation of study regulations / study programmes • documentation collected UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS

Phase 4 application and general launch • the complete information package is published • a dynamic course catalogue (for the coming two semesters) is published • quality assurance check of all criterions and standards • application send • project evaluation  • day to day management of label criteria and standards planned UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS

Status • All study programmes consist of 30 ECTS each semester (nothing less, nothing more) • All students will acquire exactly 30 ECTS if they pass a semester in accordance with the study programme • All courses/exams are multiply of 5 ECTS and none are smaller then 5 ECTS • All courses must be passed in order to achieve credits UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS

  16. Status • Information package, published • Course catalogue (more then 3000 courses per semester), about to be published • Graphic presentation of study programmes, about to be published UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS

  17. Final remarks • Develop the ECTS Label standards for the sake of the institution • Absolute necessity; top management involvement, financial and political • Allocate enough resources through out the institutions UNIVERSITY OF AARHUS
