Parameter Harddisk • Landing Zone: Nomor track/cylinder yang digunakan oleh harddisk untuk melakukan parking saat tidak digunakan (tidak berisi data) • WPcom: Write Precompensation, nomor track dimana harddisk mulai menulis data dengan precompensation (data dituliskan lebih rapat) • Kapasitas = heads x cylinders x sectors x 512 • LBA: Logical Block Address, teknik pemetaan track dan sector fisik harddisk kedalam address logical 28 bit untuk tiap track-sector, yang memungkinkan akses kapasitas harddisk yang lebih besar dari 528 MB

Metode Encoding • MFM: Modified Frequency Modulation, metode penulisan yang digunakan pada floppy disk dan harddisk berukuran kurang dari 40 MB • RLL:Run Length Limited, penambahan extra bit pada setiap kelompok bit data, sehingga terdapat spasi di antara setiap kelompok bit data yang memudahkan saat pembacaan

IDE / ATA • IDE: Integrated Drive Electronic, type interface untuk peralatan Harddisk dan CD-ROM, dimana controler dibuat menyatu dengan peralatan. • EIDE: Enhanced IDE, dengan kecepatan yang lebih tinggi, dan mempunyai fasilitas multiple channel yang memungkinkan pemasangan 2 peralatan IDE sekaligus pada satu port. • Spesifikasi IDE dikenal juga dengan istilah ATA (Advanced Technology Attachment)
