  1. The Nitrogen and Oxygen Family BY: Don Dennis, Evan Crosby, & Frank Fasola

  2. Nitrogen • Symbol- N • Atomic number- 7 • Atomic weight- 14.007 g/mol • Density- 1.251 g/L • Melting Point- 63.15 K • Boiling Point- 77.36 K

  3. Uses For Nitrogen • Nitrogen is made to make light bulbs. Light bulbs are almost always filled with Nitrogen. Another use is explosives. Nitrogen can be used to make four different explosives. One of these is Ammonium Nitrate. TNT is made by Nitrogen and Nitrogen is made to make laughing gas.

  4. Phosphorus • Symbol- P • Atomic Number- 15 • Atomic weight- 30.973762 g/mol • Density- 1.823 g/cm • Melting Point- 317.3 K • Boiling Point- 550 K

  5. Uses For Phosphorus • Phosphorus is used to make fires, (in its elemental form) its used to stop or reduce the hazards of fire. Phosphorus is also found in tooth pastes (cavity protection or tartar control), in shampoos (Head & Shoulders) and many more commonly used items.

  6. Arsenic • Symbol- As • Atomic Number- 33 • Atomic weight- 74.92160 g/mol • Density- 5.727 g/cm • Melting Point- 1090 K • Boling Point- 887 K

  7. Uses For Arsenic • Arsenic has a wide variety of uses in several industries. It is use in alloys used for making boiler tubes. Its used in insecticides and weed-killers. Arsenic in the form of Gallium Arsenide is used in semiconductor lasers.

  8. Antimony • Symbol- Sb • Atomic Number- 51 • Atomic Weight- 121.760 g/mol • Density- 6.697 g/cm • Melting Point- 903.78 K • Boiling Point- 1860 K

  9. Uses For Antimony • Antimony is finding use in semiconductor technology for making infrared detectors. Used in Batteries, antifriction alloys, type metal, small arms and tracer bullets, cable sheathing, and minor products use about half the metal produced.

  10. Bismuth • Symbol- Bi • Atomic Number- 83 • Atomic weight- 208.98040 g/mol • Density- 9078 g/cm • Melting Point- 544.7 K • Boiling Point- 1837 K

  11. Uses For Bismuth • Bismuth is used in many cosmetics. Bismuth is useful in treating gastric disorders such as colitis, diarrhea, and peptic ulcers. Pepto-Bismol gets it name from bismuth. Its found in hemorrhoid creams such as Anusol Cream and Hemcaneas as bismuth oxide.

  12. Oxygen • Symbol- O • Atomic Number- 8 • Atomic weight- 15.9994 g/mol • Density- 0 g/cm • Melting Point- 54.36 K • Boiling Point- 90.20 K

  13. Uses For Oxygen • EVERYTHING DUHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We breath it. We need it to survive

  14. Sulfur • Symbol- S • Atomic Number- 16 • Atomic weight- 32.065 g/mol • Density- 2.07 g/cm • Melting Point- 388.36 K • Boiling Point- 717.8 K

  15. Uses For Sulfur • Sulfur is a component of black gunpowder, and is used in the vulcanization of natural rubber and a fungicide. It is also used extensively in making phosphatic fertilizers. It’s a good insulator. Its an essential to life. It’s a minor constituent of fats, body fluids, and skeletal minerals.

  16. Selenium • Symbol- Se • Atomic Number- 34 • Atomic weight- 78.96 g/mol • Density- 4.81 g/cm • Melting Point- 494 K • Boiling Point- 958 K

  17. Uses For Selenium • Selenium exhibits both photovoltaic action, where light is converted directly into electricity, its used in the glass industry to decolorize glass to make ruby-colored glasses and enamels.

  18. Tellurium • Symbol- Te • Atomic Number- 52 • Atomic weight- 127.60 g/mol • Density- 6.24 g/cm • Melting Point- 722.66 K • Boiling Point- 1261 K

  19. Uses For Tellurium • Tellurium improves the machinability of copper and stainless steel. Its used as basic ingredient in blasting caps, and is added to cast iron for chill control. Its also used in ceramics.

  20. Polonium • Symbol- Po • Atomic Number- 84 • Atomic weight- 209 g/mol • Density- 9.196 g/cm • Melting Point- 527 K • Boiling Point- 1235 K

  21. Uses For Polonium • Because almost all alpha radiation is stopped within the solid source and its container, giving up its energy, polonium has attracted attention for uses as a lightweight heat source for thermoelectric power in space satellites.
