  3. OBJECTIVES • To provide you with a brief overview of Adobe Acrobat and the Acrobat family of products as well as some information on system requirements (“Minimum” and “Recommended”) and free downloads of product trial versions available

  5. ADOBE ACROBAT 3.0 • Adobe Acrobat 3.0 is just one of many products developed by Adobe Systems Incorporated • It provides the fastest way to publish any document online, empowering everyone to create and share documents across platforms while maintaining the documents’ original look and feel

ADOBE ACROBAT 3.0 • Acrobat 3.0 works with existing Web browser and servers, so all you need to instantly access Portable Document Format (PDF) files on the Web is the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software • It is independent of platforms, applications, and distribution media • It is the ideal basis for document distribution, archiving, and retrieval strategy

ADOBE ACROBAT READER 3.02A BRIEF OVERVIEW • Acrobat Reader 3.02 can be downloaded off the website free • It is the fastest way to publish any document on your corporate Intranet, on the Web, or on CD-ROM • It enables you to view, navigate, and browse PDF files seamlessly, either inside a Web browser or in a standalone application • System requirements are similar to those for Acrobat 3.0

Differences BetweenAcrobat Reader 3.0 and 3.01 • Acrobat Reader version 3.01 for Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX [and Acrobat Reader 3.0 for OS/2(R)] will allow users to find, select, and copy text when they view PDF files within Web browsers • It also includes enhanced security on links to external applications

Adobe Acrobat Forms Update adds powerful new forms features to PDF files making it faster and easier to exchange information either in familiar paper or electronic forms converted to PDF files with Acrobat 3.0, or as dynamic interactive database templates

ACROBAT FORMS PLUG-IN UPDATE - KEY FEATURES • JavaScript can be used for performing actions such as client-side field validation and calculations • Export Forms allows users to save a form and its data to a local hard drive • Dynamic Page Templates allow the creator to specify a first, last, and any number of middle pages to support form applications such as database publishing and high-end printing of bills and other forms

ACROBAT FORMS PLUG-IN UPDATE - KEY FEATURES • Embedded PDF Graphics Support allows the user to embed PDF graphics within forms and then submit those graphics to a Web server • Send Acrobat Forms data to a database - works with Web servers via standard Web server CGI scripts (a PDF form can replace HTML forms with little or no change to existing scripts)

ACROBAT FORMS PLUG-IN UPDATE - KEY FEATURES • The Acrobat FDF (Forms Data Format) Toolkit, which allows you to easily create and parse the Acrobat FDF, is available through Adobe Developer Relations on their Web site. It allows you to manipulate form information as a data tree, and extract and populate forms with graphical data. • This update requires Acrobat 3.01 or Acrobat Reader 3.01

  31. ACROBAT FORMS RESOURCESFDF TOOLKIT 2.0 • If you want to learn how to send data to and from a Web server with PDF Forms, you should read this document. Learn how to use FDF to reprogram field properties on the fly, update fields in a form without changing the form, and compose PDF documents from a server based on a user’s input

CONCLUSION • As you can see, the list of Adobe Acrobat family products is quite extensive, and the details too numerous to view in one session. • Each product is broken down into various components when it comes to system requirements - also too detailed for our presentation, but the information can be reviewed at the Adobe web site.

CONCLUSIONS • Also notice how each product is not only made to operate with other software applications, but in conjunction with each other as well to form a kind of “total” package • If you go to www.adobe.com, you will find a number of applications that are downloadable for free within the different categories of ADOBE products
