What is Nutrition? According to The University of Maryland Medical Center, “It is the science of nutrients and how they are digested, absorbed, transported, metabolized, stored, and eliminated by the body.”
In simple terms… Attaining the food required for health and growth.
How to attain the proper foods? Shop the perimeter of the grocery store. Foods located along the perimeter are… Dairy products, meats, fish, fruits, and vegetables.

Stay away from the Junk! Junk Food consist of cookies, cupcakes, potato chips, and even chocolate chip cookies. These items are found in the middle aisles. An easy way to avoid these foods…don’t shop in the middle aisles.
Unhealthy Food Choices BAD JUNK FOOD!! The main problems that occur when ingesting too much junk food are... • Heart disease • Diabetes • Lack of energy • Over weight • Fatigue • High body fat %

How the Body responds… After long activity, it is smart to fuel up! Eat healthy foods right after a long work out. The healthy foods will help your muscles grow.
Take in at least 2,000 calories. The human body on average needs 2,000 calories per day. This is to maintain a normal human body weight average. To gain weight the calories. To lose weight the calories.
Exercise!! Its very important to burn the foods you consume. If the food isn’t burned, its stored as fat. Your body uses the food as energy.
Easy ways to stay active. Ride a bike. Take a walk around the neighborhood. Jog around the neighborhood. Play a sport. Walk to school. Run up and down steps.
Who’s Healthy? More activity and less calories? Less activity and more calories?
Closing/ Ending Tip of the day Exercise for 30 minutes a day!! What is nutrition? What area should we shop in grocery stores? Name some healthy foods? Name some unhealthy foods? What are food labels?
