  2. B • Metalloid • Atomic Number: 5 • Atomic Mass: 10.811 • Group: 2 • Period: 13

  3. B • Discovered in 1824 by Jön Jakobs Berzerlius • The name Boron Originated from the Arabian word Buruh, or the Pesian word buraq

  4. Compounds • Boron Triflouride (BF3) • Tetrafluoroborate Anion (BF4)

  5. Common Uses • Can be found in bleach • Used in making windows that withstand thermal shock • Is found in Silly Putty • Is in a compound that is used in the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird jet

  6. Appearance • Boron is a brownish black rock lump in Nature, but can be refined to a shiny metal in a lab

  7. Where it’s found • Boron is a natural element that is found as a solid in the earth’s crust

  8. Physical Properties • Melting Point: 2349 K, 2076 °C, 3769 °F • Boiling Point: 4200 K, 3927 °C, 7101 °F • Density: 2.08 g·cm−3 • Moh’s Scale: 9.5

  9. Chemical Properties • Boron is highly flammable • In its amorphous form is react violent to high temperature by bursting into flames and forming oxides • Though in its crystalline form it is not very reactive even at high temperatures Boric Acid on fire
