The major issues… • Evening things out (are resources distributed fairly?) • ¾ of world population live in LIC’s • Cutting consumption (Who consumes what/the most?) • Top 20% consume 80% • Sparing the planet (population pressure = environmental pressure) • Deforestation – 1.4million acres per year! • Easing the flow of people (migration) • 1 in every 20 are refugees

  6. Globalpopulation growth What: Why is the global population growing? Why: We hope to explain past trends and accurately predict the future so we can plan for future issues. How? Graph, describe and give reasons for the rapid increase in the world's population.

  7. World Population clock Make a prediction on the following population features: 1. How many more people will there be in the world by the end of the lesson? 2. How many more people will be infected with the HIV virus? 3. How many species will have become extinct? 4. How many tonnes of CO2 will have been released?
