  42. Potential Experimental Layouts

  43. Summary • The facility design provides 34,000 sq ft of class 2000 clean room space. • Phase I will have sufficient space for 2 large experiments (Cube Hall, SNO Cavern) and 2-3 small/medium scale experiments (Ladder Labs). • Phase II will provide space for an additional large scale experiment (Cryopit). • Personnel facilities double the proven SNO design and provide room for 50 nominal occupancy. • Cooling capacity is expected to be ample for the first generation of experiments. • Power appears to be sufficient for Day 1 but will need upgrading.

  44. SNOLAB and the DUSEL Process

  45. Some Simple Facts • SNOLAB is presently under construction and a scientific program is under development with focus upon particle astrophysics experiments requiring a deep site (neutrinoless double beta decay, low-energy solar neutrinos, and cosmological dark matter). • An enthusiastic response to a call for LOI’s with significant (~50%) initiative and leadership from US. • SNOLAB will provide a premier deep underground laboratory during the next decade which is critical to maintain the field of underground science while establishing DUSEL.
