  3. Georgia begins their strands in kindergarten. Georgia QCCs are being redesigned as Performance Standards – currently these standards exist for language arts, math, science, and social studies. Each grade then builds upon the technology strands, adding one or two new strands each year of elementary school. The expectation is that each grade level will continue to incorporate the previous year’s strands as well as their own. Georgia Quality Core Curriculum

  4. National Technology Standards for Students • NETS has two sets of standards for students • One set for PreK – 2nd grades • One set for 3rd – 5th grades • The expectation is that each grade level will incorporate all standards for their grade group. • By the end of 2nd or 5th grades, students should be proficient in the technology standards designed for them.

  5. Essential Conditions “A combination of essential conditions are required to create learning environments conducive to powerful uses of technology, including: • Vision with support and proactive leadership from the education system • Educators skilled in the use of technology for learning • Content standards and curriculum resources • Student-centered approaches to learning • Assessment of the effectiveness of technology for learning • Access to contemporary technologies, software, and telecommunications networks • Technical assistance for maintaining and using technology resources • Community partners who provide expertise, support, and real-life interactions • Ongoing financial support for sustained technology use • Policies and standards supporting new learning environments” http://cnets.iste.org/students/s_esscond.html

  6. Compare the Standards • Compare the national standards to Georgia’s strands here. • (at a real presentation – handouts would be distributed now and grade level discussions would begin. How does our school compare to these standards?)

  7. Your Task • How does our school compare to these standards at your grade level? • Sketch out one lesson that could be taught using the national standards.

  8. Sharing • One representative from each grade level will share their lesson idea which is based on a national standard.
