    1. Gene Expression and Genetic Variation Data Implicate PCLO in Bipolar Disorder Kwang H. Choi, Brandon W. Higgs, Jens R. Wendland, Jonathan Song, Francis J. McMahon, and Maree J. Webster Chang Liu Emilie Selbo Anita Ullagaddi November 22, 2011

    2. Introduction Brief background of bipolar disorder Hypothesis Methods Results Conclusion Final thoughts

    3. What is Bipolar Disorder? Bipolar disorder (BD) is a highly heritable severe mental illness characterized by mood swings from mania to depression Cause is unknown Three types of BD Diagnosis is made through evaluation of symptoms and family history; treatment is very difficult

    4. Hypothesis Genetic variation may contribute to differential gene expression in the brains of individuals with BD Identified genes that are differentially expressed in subjects with BD and SNPs associated with the expression of these genes (small set of post-mortem brain samples) Tested these SNPs for association with BD in GWAS

    5. Methods Brain Tissue-Stanley Medical Research In. Neuropathology Consortium, Array Collection BD + controls only.
