The Coordinated Healthcare Interventions for Childhood Asthma Gaps in Outcomes (CHICAGO) trial PCORI Asthma projects focus on engagement webinar July 31, 2014 Kate Sheridan, MPH Stacy Ignoffo, MSW Molly Martin, MD, MAPP PCORI Contract# AS-1307-05420 Project period: March 1, 2014 – Feb 28, 2017

SPECIFIC AIMS Aim 1 Complete planning activities, including qualitative interviews with caregivers, clinicians and community health workers (CHWs), to finalize the study design and protocol, and obtain clearances from all institutional and community partners for the CHICAGO Trial. Aim 2 Conduct a 3-arm multicenter pragmatic trial comparing the effectiveness of a provider-level ED-based intervention (Provider-ED) v. Provider-ED combined with a patient-level CHW-led intervention that includes a focus on reducing environmental triggers at home (Provider-ED plus Patient-Home) v. Usual Care. In secondary analyses, we will also evaluate the potential for heterogeneity of treatment effects Secondary aim Identify barriers and facilitators of successfully implementing the interventions to inform subsequent implementation studies

  5. The CAC was formed in 1996 as a response to local data and lack of collaboration among asthma stakeholders. In 2000, CAC transitioned to an independent 501(c)(3) organization. CAC Goals • Raise awareness about asthma • Improve asthma care by promoting evidence-based care, research, and policy • Link patients, caregivers and the broader community to asthma research, education and other resources

  6. Respiratory Health Association has been a public health leader in metropolitan Chicago since 1906.  Today, we address asthma, COPD, lung cancer, tobacco control and air quality with a comprehensive approach involving research, education and advocacy activities.
