The UbuntuNet Alliance, comprising 14 National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) across Africa, is pivotal in improving research and education connectivity on the continent. This update highlights the current network operations, including direct connections to Amsterdam and London, and the AfricaConnect initiative aimed at keeping African internet traffic local. With phased implementations linking various Points of Presence (PoPs), the alliance fosters collaboration between African and European research communities. Capacity building initiatives further enhance network engineering expertise, ensuring sustainable development in the region.
