Overview of the Day • Outcomes for the day: • Explore the links between the PAR Report Recommendations and the Three District Goals • Link the role of leadership (both individually and collectively) to achieving the collective district goals and PAR Recommendations • Share the leadership assessment instrument with the group • Define the purpose • Personalize growth plan • Potential value • Link to achieving the district goals and PAR Recommendations • Share an overview of the ongoing collaboration for our work together throughout 2008-2009 • Clearly identifying our next steps • Parking Lot Poster • Inspirational Message Board

Linking District Goals and PAR Report • District Goals • Increase student achievement • Educate students for effective citizenship • Address educational barriers that negatively impact Alaska Native students • Think, Pair, Share • Review goals: Are these consistent with your understanding of district goals? Are they clear to you? • Discuss with a partner, and share with the group

Linking District Goals and PAR Report • Think, Pair, Share • Based on your meeting last week with the National Dropout Prevention Council (NDPC), what did you take away as the initial key points and recommendations from that report? • Individually, generate a list of ideas • Share with a partner at your table • Share themes with the group at your table

  7. Review McREL points • Think, Pair, Share • Individually, identify key leadership points from your McREL work • Share key points with a partner at your table • Look for common elements among the group at your table • Be prepared to report out to the group

Identifying Overlapping Issues • Take a sheet of flip chart paper and markers • Draw a Venn diagram representing the three elements: • District Goals • McREL/Leadership • PAR recommendations • Identify those overlapping opportunities & issues in the center of your diagram • Post completed Venn diagram on the wall

Nurturing the Identity of the Organization • What is the identity of your district? • Your school? • Billboard Activity: • Using a sheet of flipchart paper and markers, design a billboard that represents the identity of your district • 4-8 words • Feel free to add pictures/symbols/graphics/color • Be prepared to share with the group

  24. What is the TLQ? • A diagnostic 360-feedback process to support leadership & personal development. • It assesses the manner in which leadership behaviours are displayed – the how of leadership.

  29. ‘Who do I choose to rate me?’ • Boss – line manager or above if appropriate • Peer – colleagues, fellow team members • Direct Report – persons that you are directly responsible for • Internal Other – individuals with whom you do not work directly • External Other – individuals in other organizations / agencies with whom you work

Selecting ‘Raters’ • Who can best assess what is required of you in your current job? • Who is most likely to give you honest and frank feedback? • Choose a varied source of people (including people from outside of your organization, if appropriate) • Choose someone reliable, and who you know will complete the assessment for you

  31. Briefing ‘Raters’ • Take time to explain to raters why you are asking them to do this for you and how important their contribution is • Relieve any anxieties about confidentiality • Explain that the raters can use ‘Don’t know’ or ‘Not relevant’ where appropriate
