  2. Facts of Jainism • Indian religion • Emphasizes non-violence and asceticism • Their sacred places are temples • Their religious leaders are monks

  3. History of Jainism • Began in the sixth century BCE • Main location today is India • They’re 4 million religion adherents in this religion

  4. Temples • These temples are holy sites for the Jains • The Jains build temples with (Shikar-bandhi) and without domes (Ghar) as part of their architecture

  5. Temple Wear/Rules • Can’t eat anything inside of the temple • Anyone with a wound and bleeding can”t enter the temple • All clothes that you are currently wearing should be clean

  6. Beleifs • Holy books are the Jinas and the Tirthankars • Believe in afterlife and good and evil

  7. Holidays • In April, the Jains have a holiday called MahavirJayanti, which is the birthday of the Lord Mahavir • They also have a few holidays around the year in which the Jains use to meditate, read out of their holy books, visit the temples, and pray
