  2. Born January 12, 1729 in Dublin, Ireland. Son of an attorney in Dublin. Married in 1757 to Jane Mary Nugent, had two sons Richard, Christopher. Died July 9, 1797, in Beaconsfield, England

  3. Early education • Quaker School at Ballitore in 1743. • Then Trinity College graduate in 1748. • Father request he study law then he gone to London and entered Middle Temple in 1750. He found that he wasn’t interested in studying law. Traveled Europe and pursuit literary.

  4. Publishes • In 1756 appeared his first work published ‘A Vindication of Natural Society’; a View of the Miseries and Evils Arising to Mankind. • Then his famous treaties ‘On the Sublime and Beautiful’. • Then 1759 a project with Dodslay the publisher, ‘The Annual Register’. And continued to write yearly survey of events until 1788.

  5. Becomes friends of rockingham • Three years as a private secretary. For Chief Sec, of Ireland. • 1765 was secretary for Marquis of Rockingham, the liberal Whig statesman. • Then entered British Parliament as a member of the house of commons for Wendover. • Began his career as an orator and philosophic statesman.

  6. Enters Parliament • 1769 published, in reply to Grenvillite pamphlet. The Present State Of The Nation. • 1771 wrote a Bill which would have passed, have given the juries the right to determined what was libel. • 1772 was part of passing the Repeal of Certain Laws Act. • 1774 was elected member for Bristol. • Made a speech on motion to repeal the tenacity in support for the grievances of the American colonies • Gave speech on reconciliation with American

  7. Paymaster and P.C • In administration of Lord North (1770-1782). • In 1782 Burke became paymaster of the forces and was made Privy Councillor, but without a seat in the Cabinet. • 1785 made a great speech on The Nabob of Arcot’s Debts
